"Karanja" or "Karanja Lad" (Marathi: कारंजा लाड) is a city and a municipal council in Washim district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Karanja is also known as Karanja (Lad) or Karanja Lad and mainly referred as the latter most of the times. Karanja is a holy place for Hindus, Muslims and Jains. It is the birth place of Shri Nrusimha Saraswati Swami Maharaj, supposed as the 2nd incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. The town is named after Saint Karanj. There is also a large lake known as "Rishi Talao". The town was looted twice by famous Maratha sardar Prataprao Gujar on the order of then sole sovereign Hindu King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

TEMPLES:-

Karanja or Karanja Lad is famous for its temple of Nrusimha Saraswati Swami Maharaj. Devotees come from all around the Maharashtra. Every year many devotees come and to perform MAUNJ ( a Hindu religious ceremony in which the person is shown the path to enlightenment) for their children. KARANJA'S temple has its own borewell in addition to older regular well. The devasthan is managed by it a committee appointed by its own trusteeship.

CLIMATE:-

Karanja is usually a hot place.But the wells usually have water all year round. Karanja receives around average of 33 inches of rainfall during monsoon.

Geography

Karanja is located at .[1] It has an average elevation of 422 metres (1387 feet). Adan River flows near by Karanja city is an important source of domestic water to city. There are three lakes situated in the city viz. Rishi Talaw, Sarang Talaw and Chandra Talaw.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Karanja had a population of 60,158. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Karanja has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy rate is 78%, and female literacy is 67%.

Born on 1 April 1931, in Karanja lad (in Barar, indian historical region the best known for its muGhal era) he had pursuit his elementary education from native town, went to Darwha for Further Education. During his college days, he was famously known for directing, editing and anchoring in Mushaaeras and Drama.He went to Aligarh Muslim University To fullfill his intrest in Urdu literature. Unique addressable way was his identity in Mushaaera and public speech. He chose raji as his pen name.The veteran poet passd away on 9th November 2005 but His contribution in Urdu will never die and he will always live in our heart.After Zahur-us-samad death his younger son. Syed Ayaz Ahmed [M.A.Bed.] hold his way of his Father.

Politics

Both the Hindu and Jain communities are actively involved in municipal politics of Karanja. But [MARATHA] are most dominant factor in all sort of election in Karanja. All communities coexist peacefully and with respect for each other's religious sentiments. Prakash Dahake is considered the most powerful politician from karanja. He is also the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Karanja (Vidhan Sabha constituency).He is belong to Nationalist Congress Party.His brother dattaraj dahake is the president of municipal corporation. Rajendra Patni of Shiv Sena was MLA during 2004-2009.
